Normally due to holidays or school days off, I do not gain anything from school for that day and or missed class. However, after this reading, and this tutorial I actually gained useful information to assist me in my learning and teachings.

The reading discussed how many people learn better from pictures and words, not only picture or only words. By using both forms of distributing information, one can make connections and gain full understandings of the material. This exact point reminds me of my reflection I made about the imovie workshop. Joanna and I discussed the benefits of video clips, images, and words to assist one with their learning of a tricky subject like imovie. When they are implemented at the same time it allowed me to have a clear understanding and not just guess what is next.

Attached here is a useful website explaining why and how picture books benefit children in the classroom and their overall learning. It is so interesting to see it is not just for decoration but for enhancing things like; language skills, literary skills, and noticing sequences.

The tutorial touched on a similar concept and that is why I wanted to discuss these two options. I found the sketch-notes tutorial extremely helpful as the benefits are certain things I miss while learning. By using drawings one can listen and sketch at the same time. I always remembered taking notes and if the teacher was focused on saying something else, nothing would stay in my head between fast notes and a voice over top. It is neat that the list in the tutorial also states that they do not equal artwork. I tend to doodle and enjoy it as it helps me concentrate, but now hearing I can doodle and make it worth my time taking notes on concepts I am learning, I am excited and all for it! Lastly, the more i read the tutorial the more I realized that I do sketch-noting in a minor form with my constant arrows, bubbles, checkmarks, x’s, etc. No wonder this concept seems so great to me!

Before I end my post, this image is of a journal, reminder book, and positive way of incorporating doodles into simple everyday writing. I know it is not necessarily a sketch-note, but it reminds me of my free inquiry project and drawing little doodles never hurt anyone:)
